One of the south coast's most historic ancient monument, this Georgian Fortress was built to defend against Napoleon.  It continued as a working fortress for many years, also used during World Wars I & II by Military Police, Home Guard and Canadian forces.

All front-line staff have undertaken accessibility training and will do their best to ensure your visit is both enjoyable and safe.

Eastbourne Redoubt is a multi-level circular fortress with a maximum licenced capacity of 1600. because of the nature of the fort there is a large number of steps into the fort. The only are that has flat acces is the gun platform.


It must be noted these are maximums and maybe be reduced depending on the type of event and audience profile expected.


There is plenty of on-street parking. Alternatively a car park at Treasure Island is a 24 hour car park; with free parking for blue badge holders and free to everyone after 6pm.

If travelling by Taxi please ask your driver to drop you at the road side entrance.

Nearest Railway Station - Eastbourne (approx. 20 minute walk)

Nearest Bus Stops: Eastbourne Town Centre (approx. 20 minute walk) or Eastbourne Pier (approx. 10 minute walk)


Via Prom - Located by the beach, with about 20 steps down to the Redoubt's parade ground.

Via Royal Parade - The Redoubt entrance from here crosses the moat with direct access to the gun platform. Please note there are a large number of steps from here to the Parade Ground.

If you have any special access requirements please let us know in advance.

There is one step from the parade ground to inside the fort building. Once inside the main building there is level access through-out that level.

In the Cinema we have traditional flip up cinemas seats.

All seating is reserved; you pick your seat at time of purchase.

Carer Tickets are offered free of charge to those who require a companion to assist them in accessing the facilities at Eastbourne Redoubt. (having a disability as defined by The Equality Act 2010).

Who is the carer ticket not for? The ticket is not available to, or intended for, those who simply require a companion to assist with transportation to and from the venue, or to keep them company. The ticket is not offered to anyone who can cope independently in a public venue. 

You can also come and visit the venue when there is nothing on if you think it would be helpful to familiarise yourself with the building before you attend an event.

There is no public telephone on site. There is a phone at the Main Office that can be used in an emergency or to book taxis for disabled visitors; please just ask a member of staff.

Standard and large print plans of the Venue are available on request.

We welcome assistance dogs and a bowl of water can be provided if requested.

All our toilets are within the fort; access is via the parade ground with one step.

We do not have accessible toilets available within the fort.

The fire alarms give an audible warning only. There is no visual display. A member of staff will assist in the event of a fire alarm. If you are unlikely to be able to hear the alarms or will need assistance to exit the building if the fire alarm sounds, please tell a member of staff on your arrival.

All staff have a programme of core training, which includes customer care, diversity and disability awareness. They are here to help customers enjoy the time they spend at Eastbourne Redoubt.
